WhatsApp Starts Testing ‘Favourites’ Chat Filter in Latest Beta Version: Here’s How it Works

According to the report, the feature is available in the beta version of the WhatsApp app for Android.

WhatsApp for Android is reportedly developing a new feature that allows users to add and filter their favorite chats for easier access. This feature is currently under development and is being rolled out to testers registered through the Google Play Beta Program. Once available in beta, these users can see and test the feature. Additionally, WhatsApp is also reportedly testing filters for unread messages and group chats to display specific conversations.

WhatsApp Is Beta Testing a New Favourites Filter

The new feature was discovered by feature tracker WABetaInfo on WhatsApp beta for Android version 2.24.12.7. This feature enables users to organize their favorite chats with a new filter, potentially aiding those who receive numerous messages from various contacts and find it challenging to locate their regular contacts. Although the chat pinning feature is available, the platform restricts users to a maximum of three pinned chats.

The publication also provided a screenshot of the feature, showing four new filters displayed at the top of the screen beneath the WhatsApp logo. While the All, Unread, and Groups filters were reportedly introduced earlier, a fourth filter called Favourites is now visible.

WhatsApp Favourites Chat Filter: How it Works

The feature description reads, “Simplify finding the most important people and groups across WhatsApp.” At the bottom, there’s an “Add to Favorites” option allowing users to manually add contacts to this list.

WABetaInfo suggests that users can also remove and rearrange chats according to their preference. Since the feature is being gradually rolled out in beta, not all beta testers may immediately see it, but it’s expected to appear over the next few days.

WhatsApp Increases Voice Message Duration for Beta Testers

In a separate update, WhatsApp has extended the maximum duration of voice messages in Status updates. Previously limited to 30 seconds, users can now upload voice messages up to one minute in length on the messaging platform.

This feature has been released for both Android and iOS platforms. Additionally, the platform is said to be developing an “Imagine” shortcut, allowing users to create AI-generated images. This feature is driven by Meta AI.
