Snapchat has launched an ‘AR Pichkari’ Lens to commemorate Holi 2024 alongside friends: Here’s How it Functions.

Now, you have the opportunity to celebrate Holi 2024 by virtually splashing colors on your friends using the new AR Pichkari lens on Snapchat.

Snapchat has introduced a fresh ‘AR Pichkari’ lens just in time for Holi 2024. The social media platform, known for its mobile-based image and video sharing, disclosed that the lens was created by a third-party developer. It enables users to virtually splash their friends with colors through their smartphone’s rear camera, mimicking the traditional use of a pichkari (water gun) during the Holi festival. This lens is among the various augmented reality (AR) lenses provided by Snapchat, allowing users to engage with their environment in innovative ways.

As per information provided by the company, the recently introduced AR Pichkari lens was created by Ronin Labs and is accessible to all users on the platform. Similar to other AR lenses on Snapchat, users can locate the AR lens through the search bar within the Snapchat app. Alternatively, you can click on this link, which will directly lead you to the AR Pichkari lens.

After choosing the AR Pichkari lens, you can switch to the rear camera on Snapchat and aim it towards your friends. Using AR technology, the app will detect your friend’s location in the viewfinder and begin spraying them with virtual colors. The flow also responds to your phone’s movements, mimicking the experience of using a pichkari.

Utilize the AR Pichkari filter to navigate and digitally spray your friends with Holi colors. A meter displayed on the left side of the screen indicates the remaining amount of color. Approximately midway through, the message “Holi Hai!” appears on the screen, as per Snapchat’s information.

Snapchat has rolled out its AR Pichkari lens on the messaging platform in anticipation of Holi 2024, and it will gradually become available to all users in the upcoming days. Alternatively, users can access the AR lens by directing their Snap camera (the in-app camera) towards the Snapcode displayed in the image above on iOS and Android devices that have been updated to the latest version of the app.
