Reports suggest that Google is developing a new method to address overheating issues in Pixel smartphones.

When active, the Pixel smartphone reportedly issues a “pre-emergency” alert once the battery temperature reaches 49 degrees Celsius.

According to a report, Google is working on a new solution to address overheating issues in its Pixel smartphones. The feature, called “Adaptive Thermal,” was apparently discovered during an APK teardown of the Device Health Services app on the smartphone. While current smartphones include built-in temperature safety features, this new feature is said to introduce a pop-up notification and activate a temperature monitoring service whenever it detects the Pixel smartphone heating up.

According to a report by Android Authority, in collaboration with tipster Mishaal Rahman, details about a new feature under development by Google have emerged. Several lines of code related to this feature were discovered during an APK teardown of version 1.27 of the Pixel’s Device Health Services app.

When activated, the smartphone is set to issue a “pre-emergency” alert when the battery temperature reaches 49 degrees Celsius. A notification may then appear stating that the “phone needs to cool down.” It is also expected to advise users that they may experience “reduced performance” on their Pixel device.

Currently, Pixel devices, like other smartphones, incorporate multiple safeguards to manage overheating. When the device temperature rises, the CPU reduces its speed to maintain safe operating conditions. Additionally, the device can automatically disable features such as the LED flash, camera, 5G connectivity, and adjust charging speed to prevent potential damage. According to the report, to alleviate overheating issues, users are advised to avoid direct sunlight, close battery-intensive apps, and keep the device in a well-ventilated area. A new “See care steps” option will reportedly provide insights into the operating system’s actions to safeguard the device, along with tips to cool it down effectively.

According to reports, the Adaptive Thermal feature is said to automatically monitor the Pixel smartphone’s temperature every five minutes. If the temperature exceeds 52 degrees Celsius, the device is said to enter an “emergency” state. Upon reaching 55 degrees Celsius, it may trigger a 30-second warning, after which the handset may power off.
