Oppo and OnePlus have teamed up with Google to incorporate Gemini AI capabilities into their devices.

As a result of this collaboration, Oppo and OnePlus will globally unveil innovative generative AI functionalities.

Oppo and OnePlus have partnered with Google to integrate the capabilities of its artificial intelligence (AI) model Gemini into their devices. Through this collaboration, the Chinese smartphone brands will utilize the Gemini 1.0 Ultra model to introduce innovative AI features. It’s worth mentioning that Oppo already has its own native large language model called AndesGPT, which has been used to implement various AI features in its devices in China. Recently, Oppo announced the global rollout of the AI Eraser feature for the Reno 11 series.

The announcement was made during Google’s annual Cloud Next event, where Nicole Zhang, General Manager of AI Product for OPPO and OnePlus, expressed confidence in the transformative potential of generative AI technology. Zhang highlighted the companies’ commitment to delivering these benefits to users worldwide through collaboration with Google to integrate Gemini and Google Cloud AI into smartphones. Additionally, they aim to expand mobile AI innovations by partnering with other industry leaders to offer diverse AI experiences.

Zhang also mentioned plans to introduce over 100 AI-generated content experiences for users. These experiences likely refer to AI-based features that incorporate content in various ways, such as the Call Summary generator and the AI image generator, both of which Oppo has already introduced in China.

The partnership with Google seems to be aimed at Oppo and OnePlus users beyond China. Although the specifics of the collaboration are currently undisclosed, it could potentially enable the companies to integrate Google-specific AI features into their smartphones, such as Portrait Light and lock-screen song identification. According to a statement from the brands, some of the forthcoming features in development include news article summarization, audio summarization, and the generation of fresh social media content.

Coincidentally, this development aligns with Oppo’s recent unveiling of the AI Eraser feature for the Reno 11 series smartphones on a global scale. The AI Eraser is a photo editing tool integrated into the pre-installed gallery app. Users can simply select and circle any object in the background, after which the AI algorithm processes and eliminates it while restoring the remaining background elements.
