Nothing Ear, Nothing Ear A are set to be launched on April 18 as the company resets its naming strategy.

Nothing seems to be expanding its range of TWS audio products with the upcoming release of the Nothing Ear and Ear A.

On Friday, the UK startup led by OnePlus Co-Founder Carl Pei, Nothing, announced that it will be launching Nothing Ear and Nothing Ear A next month. Initially, the company had planned to unveil its third generation of truly wireless stereo (TWS) audio products as Nothing Ear 3. However, it has decided to reset its naming strategy, starting with the successor to the Ear 2 TWS headset. Similar to the Phone 2a, Nothing will also introduce a second audio product with an “a” suffix.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Nothing confirmed that it will release two new products on April 18 — the Nothing Ear and Nothing Ear A. The Nothing Ear is anticipated to replace the Ear 2, which was introduced in 2023. Whether the Nothing Ear A will be launched as a more affordable version of the Nothing Ear remains uncertain.

It’s intriguing to note that Nothing intends to introduce audio products with alphabetical suffixes. This trend follows the launch of the Nothing Phone 2a, a mid-range smartphone that arrived several months after the debut of the more expensive Phone 2 last year.

If the upcoming Nothing Ear A is positioned as a more affordable alternative to the Nothing Ear, it may find itself competing with Nothing’s own sub-brand CMF. CMF also offers budget-friendly TWS audio products priced between Rs. 2,499 and Rs. 3,499 in India. Alternatively, Nothing could release the Nothing Ear at a price point around Rs. 10,000, while positioning the Ear A around the Rs. 5,000 mark.

Nothing says that the decision to reset its naming strategy to exclude numbers was taken after the company reached a three-year milestone, adding that it wants to centre the focus around the product. We can speculate that subsequent models will include the year that the product was launched, in order to differentiate them from their predecessors.
