Meta Quest is expected to add support for a free window placement feature similar to the one found on Apple’s Vision Pro.

Up to three windows can be placed freely on the Meta Quest with the experimental feature.

Social media claims suggest that Meta Quest could soon introduce a feature akin to Apple Vision Pro, allowing users to freely place windows. This feature was reportedly in experimental stages in the latest beta update for the mixed-reality headset. This development follows Meta’s recent rollout of Travel Mode, enabling users to use the VR headset during flights in passthrough mode, a feature previously seen on Apple’s mixed-reality headset.

Meta Quest’s Experimental Feature

On X (formerly Twitter), user @Lunayian posted about a new feature called “New Window Layout” for the Meta Quest. This feature was discovered in Meta Horizon OS version 67, accessible through the Meta Quest Public Test Channel. According to the attached video, it allows users to place windows freely anywhere on the screen and also supports dragging windows to rearrange their positions.

While Meta Quest currently supports multitasking with multiple windows, it restricts their placement to a side-by-side layout. The new experimental feature now allows users to freely position up to three windows.

In addition to the new window layout feature, the update introduces multi-orientation support for the Quest. Users are reportedly able to position the virtual keyboard horizontally, vertically, or at an angle. To activate this feature, users can go to the settings menu, select Experimental Features, and toggle on the New Window Layout option to enable free window placement.

Expansion of Horizon OS

In May, Meta Platforms revealed plans to extend Horizon OS support to third-party device makers and brands. As part of this initiative, the Meta Quest Store underwent a rebranding to become the Meta Horizon Store. The company disclosed collaborations with brands like Asus ROG and Lenovo to develop gaming and entertainment-oriented headsets.

Additionally, Meta introduced a dedicated section within the Meta Horizon Store for App Lab titles. They also announced the development of a new spatial app framework, aimed at enabling developers to create mixed-reality experiences for its marketplace.
