Instagram is reportedly testing a new feature called Ad Breaks, which introduces short but unskippable ads. According to recent claims on Reddit, the Meta-owned photo-sharing platform has not officially disclosed any details about the test. However, users across Reddit forums have reported encountering these ads. This development has left many users displeased, with some considering leaving the platform for alternative social media apps.

Ad breaks feature on Instagram
In the Instagram subreddit, user @notthatogwiththename shared a post about the introduction of Ad Break, a feature that brings unskippable ads to select users. The post received numerous comments expressing frustration over the lack of prior information about this change. One user commented, “I came here to post this because there are no talks about it anywhere.”
This move has reportedly left many users dissatisfied with the social media platform. Another user responded to the post, “I thought I’d been taking crazy pills for two days because this is currently happening to me, and I couldn’t find any info anywhere other than your recent post. So thank you… and goodbye IG. I have no need for that.”
As shown in the screenshot, users are now encountering three to five-second ads while scrolling through the app, preventing them from browsing during that time. One user mentioned trying to provide feedback about this feature to Instagram but found no options to do so. According to users, there have been no mentions of Ad Breaks anywhere.
The introduction of Ad Breaks has led many users to consider leaving the platform for alternative social media apps, according to the comments. One user remarked, “So far, I simply close the app as soon as an ad break pops up, and if this continues, I’ll be unsubscribing.”
Another user complained that the company did not do “any research on this before pushing it onto the public,” noting that it disrupts the user experience.

Additions to Notes
Instagram recently introduced new features to Notes, a function that allows users to share their thoughts with friends. With Notes Prompts, users will now encounter questions and musings when they enter Notes, and they can respond by posting their own Notes.
Additionally, users can now quickly react to their friends’ and followers’ notes with the Quick Likes feature. Another new addition is the tagging feature, which allows users to tag their friends by using the ‘@’ symbol before their username.
