Billionaire Elon Musk announced that long-form videos will soon be accessible on smart TVs, following reports from Fortune magazine about social network X’s plan to launch a TV app for Amazon and Samsung users next week.

The platform rolled out an early version of video and audio calling for some users last October, after Musk had said he planned to turn it into a super app offering services from messaging to peer-to-peer payments.

“In an imminent development,” Elon Musk replied briefly on X to a user‘s post suggesting that the platform’s long-form videos might soon be viewable directly on smart TVs.

Previously, Fortune reported that the app might resemble Google’s YouTube TV app. Citing an unnamed source, it stated that Musk aimed to compete with YouTube.

X did not immediately respond to Reuters’ request for additional information about the app.

In its effort to prioritize video content, X has been forming partnerships with figures such as former Fox commentator Tucker Carlson and former CNN anchor Don Lemon.

The platform, which has faced challenges in retaining advertisers due to controversies since Musk acquired it in 2022, announced last month that it would allow advertisers to display video ads alongside specific content creators.
