In February, publisher Bandai Namco announced that Elden Ring had sold 23 million copies since its release in February 2022.

Elden Ring has sold 25 million copies worldwide, developer FromSoftware confirmed this week. The acclaimed action-RPG, which became a global phenomenon after its 2022 release, achieved this milestone ahead of the upcoming launch of its first major expansion, Shadow of the Erdtree, set to release later this month. Elden Ring is now comfortably FromSoftware’s highest-selling title, surpassing popular games like Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice and Dark Souls III, both of which sold 10 million units.

Elden Ring sales milestone

FromSoftware announced on Wednesday via an X post, expressing gratitude to Elden Ring players. The sales figure likely encompasses both physical and digital versions of the game across all platforms. “We have come a long way together. We are ever thankful for your passion and support,” the Elden Ring account posted on X following the confirmation.

In February, Bandai Namco, the publisher, confirmed that Elden Ring had sold 23 million copies since its release in February 2022. Within a few months, the RPG has now surpassed the 25-million mark, likely fueled by anticipation for its expansion, Shadow of the Erdtree.

Back in February 2023, Bandai Namco confirmed that the base game had reached the 20-million sales mark. “The companies would like to thank everyone who has played this game from the bottom of their hearts and will continue to develop various ways for the fans to enjoy the world of ELDEN RING in the future,” the publisher stated in a statement at the time.

Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree release

Announced last year, Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree is scheduled for release on June 21 for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series S/X. The expansion requires the base game to play and will also be available in a bundle that includes both the base game and the expansion in a single package.

Shadow of the Erdtree will center on Miquella, the brother of the infamous Elden Ring boss, Malenia. The expansion will take place in a new region called the Realm of Shadow and will introduce a new primary antagonist, Messmer the Impaler. FromSoftware has stated that Shadow of the Erdtree is their largest expansion to date and will introduce new characters, storylines, and a new map area.

Elden Ring, released on February 25, 2022, secured the Game of the Year title at The Game Awards 2022.
