Adobe has revealed a new Acrobat AI Assistant designed for PDFs. It is capable of producing summaries and responding to queries.

Users can access Adobe’s Acrobat AI Assistant through a subscription add-on, starting from $4.99 per month (approximately Rs. 420).

Adobe has officially introduced generative artificial intelligence (AI) features for its Acrobat and Reader platforms. Named the Acrobat AI Assistant, these AI capabilities were initially unveiled by the company in beta in February 2024. Following nearly two months of testing, it is now accessible to users worldwide. The AI assistant is compatible with both desktop and web clients. Additionally, Adobe has indicated that it is also developing a text-to-video AI model.

In the announcement, Abhigyan Modi, senior vice president of Adobe Document Cloud, stated, “Whether it’s handling taxes, collaborating on contracts, or creating and sharing research papers, Acrobat serves as the go-to platform for PDFs. The Acrobat AI Assistant empowers billions of users to transition from merely reading documents to engaging in conversations – allowing them to obtain insights, format, and share content from various digital documents quickly and effortlessly.”

According to Adobe, the Acrobat AI Assistant is an AI-powered conversational engine integrated into the workflows of Reader and Acrobat. It offers assistance to users in various ways. The chatbot can suggest questions based on the content of a PDF and provide answers to user inquiries. It can engage in conversational dialogue, similar to major AI chatbots. Moreover, the AI assistant can generate summaries of lengthy documents in easily understandable formats.

Furthermore, the Acrobat AI Assistant is equipped to generate citations through a customized attribution engine. This feature assists users in verifying the sources of information provided by the AI. Adobe asserts that the AI also includes clickable links to locate information within lengthy documents. Users can easily share the summaries using a copy button provided within the interface. Regarding data privacy, Adobe emphasizes that no customer document content is stored or utilized to train AI assistants without explicit consent.

In addition to the familiar web and desktop interfaces, Adobe has introduced the Acrobat AI Assistant in beta on Acrobat Reader mobile. This functionality also supports voice commands. Furthermore, users can access the AI chatbot through Acrobat’s existing Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge extensions.

The Acrobat AI Assistant will be accessible to users with either a free Reader or a paid Acrobat subscription for individual plans, provided they acquire a new AI Assistant add-on subscription starting at $4.99 (approximately Rs. 420) per month. Adobe states that this pricing is for early access and may be subject to an increase after June 5.
