According to Canalys, Apple’s Mac computers secured 60 percent of the AI PC market, while Windows AI PC shipments increased by 12 percent in Q2 2024.
In Q2 2024, shipments of Windows AI PCs priced above $800 (approximately Rs. 67,200) saw a 9 percent increase compared to the previous quarter.
According to a Canalys report, global shipments of AI PCs grew in Q2 2024, with over 8.8 million AI-capable computers shipped by manufacturers. Apple’s Mac computers represented a significant portion of these shipments. The adoption of AI PCs is anticipated to rise further in the latter half of 2024, driven by the launch of Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X chipset series, which is based on Arm architecture and powers the newly released Copilot+ PCs from various OEMs.
AI PC Shipments Grew in Q2 2024
Canalys’ latest report shows that Mac computers with Apple Silicon chipsets accounted for 60 percent of AI PC shipments in Q2 2024, significantly outperforming Windows AI computers, which represented just under 40 percent of shipments during the same period.
All of Apple’s current-generation computers come with M-series chips, whereas Windows computers still include some processors not focused on AI. However, most users will be able to fully utilize the AI capabilities of their Mac hardware with the introduction of Apple Intelligence features later this year or early in 2025.
Although Apple led in shipments during the past quarter, Windows AI PC shipments saw a remarkable sequential increase of 127 percent, according to the market research firm. Among OEMs, Lenovo’s Yoga Slim and ThinkPad laptops contributed to a 6 percent market share, slightly below Dell’s 7 percent share with its Inspiron, XPS, and Latitude models. HP led with an 8 percent market share, driven by the launch of its EliteBook and Omnibook Copilot+ PCs.

The report also highlights that Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X series chipsets were introduced in June, leaving only a brief period for OEMs to ship substantial quantities of these AI-capable computers in Q2 2024.
These companies have pledged to integrate Arm chipsets into their upcoming products, promising improved performance and efficiency compared to most x86 chips. “With a solid foundation now established, AI-capable PC shipments are expected to see significant growth in the second half of 2024,” stated Ishan Dutt, Principal Analyst at Canalys.
