A significant update to Apple Logic Pro for iPad 2 introduces AI-powered session players and stem splitters.

At its Let Loose event on Tuesday, Apple revealed updated versions of the Logic Pro app for both iPad and Mac devices.

During its Let Loose event on Tuesday, Apple introduced the new iPad Pro and iPad Air models alongside the Apple Pencil Pro. However, amidst the hardware announcements, the Cupertino-based tech giant also rolled out a significant update for the Logic Pro app. Both Logic Pro for iPad 2 and Logic Pro for Mac 11 now come with new artificial intelligence (AI)-powered features and enhanced tools for mixing tracks and beats. Additionally, Apple unveiled an update for the Final Cut Pro app.

Logic Pro, Apple’s proprietary digital audio workstation (DAW), has long been a crucial platform for users to mix beats and craft professional-grade tracks. With this latest update, Apple has expanded its feature set, providing music enthusiasts with more creative tools. The update introduces three notable features: Session Players, Stem Splitters, and ChromaGlow, with the first being AI-powered.

For years, users have been familiar with and utilized the Drummer feature, which acts as a virtual session player capable of generating drum beats in various styles and techniques to complement tracks. Apple has now expanded this feature by introducing two additional virtual session players: a Bass Player and a Keyboard Player, collectively referred to as Session Players. These new players have also been developed using AI and sampling technology, similar to the Drummer. The Bass Player selection includes eight options, each offering customization options such as slides, mutes, dead notes, and pickup hits.

The Keyboard Player serves as the second virtual session player and offers four distinct styles. It includes Chord Track and Studio Piano plugins, enabling control over block chords, chord voicing, extended alternate harmony, and additional functionalities.

In addition to Session Players, another notable feature is the Stem Splitter. This functionality enables users to divide and extract any audio recording into separate tracks for drums, bass, vocals, and other instruments. After splitting, users can apply individual effects or add new elements before merging the tracks back together.

Additionally, Apple has introduced ChromaGlow. Described as a saturation-style controller, this feature offers five distinct styles of reverb with adjustable levels of voice saturation. According to Apple, ChromaGlow enhances tracks by providing “ultrarealistic warmth, presence, and punch.”
