According to reports, Apple is set to introduce a password management app during WWDC 2024. This app aims to help users keep track of their login credentials.
According to the report, Apple’s Passwords app will debut with iOS 18, iPadOS 18, and macOS 15.
Reportedly, Apple is set to launch a new Passwords app during the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) 2024, scheduled for June 10. According to the report, the tech giant is expected to unveil its password management and tracking platform alongside the iOS 18, iPadOS 18, and macOS 15 updates. The app is rumored to be powered by iCloud Keychain, the native service that synchronizes passwords and account information across Apple’s devices. Additionally, the Cupertino-based company will announce several new artificial intelligence (AI) features for various apps and services.

Apple’s new Passwords App
According to a report by Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the new app is expected to debut during the keynote session of the WWDC event. Citing sources familiar with the app’s development, the report suggests that the Passwords app will have the capability to save and manage users’ passwords and generate new ones.
Based on the report, it seems that the feature will be powered by iCloud Keychain, a service that synchronizes passwords and account credentials across Apple devices. However, currently, the service can only be accessed via the Settings app or when a user attempts to log into an account. The new Passwords app is likely to provide users with a user-friendly interface for the feature and offer more control over its functionalities.
According to reports, the Passwords app is expected to include authenticator functionalities. It will support verification codes, allowing users to set up two-factor authentication. Additionally, the Passwords app is said to organize the user’s credentials into different categories such as Wi-Fi networks, accounts, and passkeys. While there might be other categories as well, there is no information available about them at present.
With this move, Apple could be looking to establish its password management platform. Currently, third-party apps like 1Password, LastPass, and Proton Pass offer password management features. It is reported that the tech giant may allow users to import their password data from third-party apps into its Passwords app to facilitate the transition.

Nevertheless, Apple will need to provide a feature-rich app to attract users away from third-party alternatives. For example, 1Password offers features like password sharing, file storage, vault and tag organization, and additional field support. Currently, the complete range of features offered by the Passwords app is not known. We will only learn about them once Apple officially launches the app.
