Samsung suggests the introduction of ‘new premium models’ for the Galaxy Watch, with hints of a potential launch for the Galaxy Ring as well.
Samsung announced that the upcoming premium smartwatch models will be released in response to the demand for upgrades.
Samsung recently announced its intentions to broaden its wearable ecosystem in the current year, dropping hints about the potential introduction of new premium models of smartwatches. The company unveiled its Q1 2024 (January-March) earnings on Tuesday, along with outlining its plans for the upcoming quarter and the remainder of the year. Within its Mobile eXperience (MX) Business, Samsung is considering the launch of fresh iterations of the Galaxy Watch and possibly even the Galaxy Ring in the ongoing year. Additionally, the South Korean tech giant is strategizing to integrate Galaxy AI into both new and existing flagship devices.
In a newsroom release, Samsung divulged its quarterly revenue figures, demonstrating substantial growth quarter-on-quarter, fueled by robust sales of its flagship Galaxy S24 smartphones. The tech behemoth reported an operating profit of KRW 6.61 trillion (approximately Rs. 37 thousand crores) for the quarter, attributing the boosted earnings to the enhanced performance of the MX Business.
Beyond revenue metrics, Samsung outlined its forthcoming plans for the next quarter and the subsequent months. Of particular note, the company emphasized its objective to amplify its wearable ecosystem. One method it intends to achieve this goal is by introducing novel form factors like the Galaxy Ring. Although the device was recently showcased at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2024, its official launch date remains undisclosed. Nevertheless, the mention indicates the likelihood of the Galaxy Ring’s release later this year. An earlier report suggested that mass production of the device could commence in the third quarter of the year.
Another approach Samsung aims to employ in expanding the division is by unveiling fresh premium models of smartwatches. This development is intriguing, considering the company’s existing presence in the market with two smartwatch offerings — the Galaxy Watch 6 and the Galaxy Watch 6 Classic. However, in the current year, Samsung might introduce additional models alongside these. As per a report from SamMobile, Samsung is speculated to release a new square or rectangular-shaped smartwatch.
This wouldn’t be a novel initiative either, as the company previously provided square-shaped smartwatches within its now-discontinued Galaxy Gear series. Additionally, there are speculations suggesting that Samsung might introduce another smartwatch bearing the ‘Pro’ or ‘Ultra’ label, incorporating additional features, potentially tailored for the new rectangular design.
